Middlesex County: A Great Place to Live, Work and Play

Middlesex County is located in the central southern area of Connecticut, between Hartford County and New London County. Middlesex County is home to two National Wildlife Refuges, the Silvio O. Conte National Wildlife Refuge and the Stewart B. McKinney Natonal Wildlife Refuge, both of which offer birdwatchers and animal lovers a bit of heaven on Earth.

Throughout the year, both of the refuges are bursting with energy from migrations, habitats, and community wildlife events, including owl walks, waterfowl walks, woodcock walks, bird branding demonstrations and presentations with live birds of prey. Residents can also enjoy ferry rides around the perimeter of the refuges, where information about the different animals and habitats can be learned, as well as a wonderful visit to an actual research camp near one of the Middlesex County areas light houses.
